The Mustang is Brought into the Future

For some people, the Ford Mustang will always conjure up images of late 1960s fastbacks, and later models are really considered by them to be almost different cars altogether. To be fair, every Mustang fan will have their own favorite from this legendary car's long and illustrious history of more than 50 years, but those of us who have experienced the latest 2018 Mustang incarnation of this automotive icon will know it's never been better.

A first for the Mustang

Car buyers who like the idea of an all-time classic brought right up to date can’t fail to impress with what's been happening to the Mustang since its big sixth-generation redesign of 2015, but now the 'Stang has taken another step into the future by becoming the first mass-market sports car to be offered with a fully digital instrument cluster.

This new dashboard display is an optional feature that comes in the form of a 12-inch LCD display allowing owners to control what's shown to them on the car's instrument panel. The display lets users choose the color and layout of the gauges, as well as to tailor the selectable driver modes of normal, sporty and track drive modes. All of which helps to enhance the Mustang's overall driving experience.

The new digital display is supplied to Ford by a company called Rightware. The company's CEO Jonas Geust says of the unit: "We are thrilled to be part of the Mustang story as Ford takes this iconic car into the future. The digital dashboard enhances the Mustang experience. It’s modern while staying true to the Mustang’s lineage."

It will be hard to contain your inner-child when you’re in a Mustang equipped with the new digital display when the car is put into track mode. That's because the display includes an image of the car with smoking tires, and more fun can be had by changing the colors of the panel to customize the look to suit your driving style, mood or just to match your favorite color.

.

But don’t forget about…

Of course, the new display is just one of many hi-tech features that make the Mustang as advanced as any of its rivals, and more advanced than many. Regardless of the engine chosen, every Mustang features automatic LED headlights, active noise cancellation, keyless ignition, a six-speaker audio system, a rearview camera, and Ford's ludicrously entertaining line lock. Go for a Mustang GT or EcoBoost model in the Premium trim level, the list of equipment that also includes: heated and cooled front seats, leather upholstery, the Sync 3 infotainment system with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and dual-zone automatic climate control. But best of all, the Premium trim is also available with a main equipment package. As well as a navigation function for the infotainment system, improved seat upholstery, accent stitching, colored door trim, a heated steering wheel, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and remote start, this package also gets you the fabulous new all-digital instrument cluster.
