Limited-Edition Shelby GT350, GT350R Heritage Edition Package

There are few more iconic racing liveries than the Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue side and over-the-top race stripes of the 1965 GT350 competition Mustang developed and created by the legendary Carroll Shelby. A year before Les Mans lap records were being set by Ken Miles in the GT40, the celebrated racer and engineer was already causing a stir on the track behind the wheel of the initial Shelby Mustang GT350 fastback coupes.

It was February 14, 1965, when the GT350 became an instant race legend being driven by Ken Miles at the Green Valley Raceway in the great state of Texas. Almost from that day on, the Shelby GT350 has been an icon of the Mustang lineage, so it's only right that Ford has seen fit to pay homage to the legend.

To celebrate 55 years since the legend was born Ford has created a special 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350 Heritage Package for both the "standard" GT350 and the even more hardcore GT350R. While the power, handling, and performance of the car are what created the legend, it's the racing livery that is perhaps now most identifiable about these iconic race cars.

The production Shelby GT350 gained a raft of upgrades only last year, such as a revised front chassis geometry for a better feel for the steering, a revised antilock braking system, and MagneRide tuning. Those enhancements resulted in an improved ride, along with better stability and handling for the Shelby both on the road and at the track.

This year, the car also benefits from a redesigned high-trail steering knuckle borrowed from the all-new Shelby GT500, along with a new steering rack and a recalibrated electric power steering system.

The limited-edition Shelby GT350, GT350R Heritage Edition Package is a cosmetic limited edition package for the 2020 model year Shelby Mustangs. The main feature is the Wimbledon White body with Guardsman Blue side and over-the-top race stripes, which mimics the blue and white the United States has employed as its assigned international racing colors since as long ago now as the 1950s.

As well as the classic racing livery, the Heritage Edition Package also features additional styling cues such as front and rear exterior heritage badging finished in Guardsman Blue and a unique interior dash badge. Additionally, track-focused GT350R models will also feature all-black seats finished with red accent stitching.

Jim Owens, Ford's Mustang marketing manager, says of the new limited-edition packages, "Looking back on it, what Ford and Carroll Shelby created back in the mid-'60s was so important to Mustang. With their authentic exterior livery, unique appointments and performance Ken could have only dreamed of, the Mustang Shelby GT350 and Mustang Shelby GT350R Heritage Edition Package vehicles are a meaningful tribute to the legacy of the Shelby brand."
