For the first time this year, the Ford Company was granted an ‘A-List’ designation by CDP, a non-profit that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states, and regions to manage their environmental impacts. This designation was achieved by Ford’s demonstrated efforts to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks, and develop the low-carbon economy.

Although we are proud of the work we have done so far, we know that further challenges lie ahead. We are committed to meeting those challenges. To date, Ford is the only full-line US automaker working with California for stronger vehicle greenhouse gas standards. It should also be noted that Ford has joined the CEO Climate Dialogue and the Climate Leadership Council.

Aspirational Goals

It’s no secret that climate change is a global challenge. Ford has made climate change, air emissions, and air quality strategic priorities. Ford is committed to reducing the impacts associated with production operations and the use of Ford manufactured vehicles.

We provide our customers with more choices by researching and developing alternative powertrains and fuel options across all our vehicles. One example is the launch of the all-electric Mustang Mach-E.

Also, the all-electric Ford Transit, coming in 2022, is an example of our commitment to electrification.

Our stated aspirational goals:

    • We aspire to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

      • With a focus on vehicle use, factories, and suppliers.

    • We aspire to achieve zero air emissions from our facilities.

    • We will use 100% locally-sourced renewable energy for all manufacturing plants globally by 2035.

More About the Mustang Mach-E

The 2021 Mustang Mach-E doesn’t sacrifice the power of the traditional Mustang. In fact, the power you’ve come to expect is only enhanced with zero emissions, with a targeted 0-60mph in a mid 3-second range. Front and rear motors distribute power independently to each axle, giving this electric all-wheel drive impressive acceleration on difficult terrain.

    • Battery Charge

You can count on stamina with an extended range battery for a targeted EPA-estimated range of 300 miles.

    • Interior

With a luxurious and spacious SUV interior, plenty of headroom and legroom means everyone will be comfortable.

    • Innovative Features

A front trunk placement allows 4.7 cubic feet of water-resistant storage space that is washable and features a conveniently placed drain, perfect for muddy gear. Believe it or not, you can even fill this space with ice and load it with your favorite beverages - the most unique centerpiece of the tailgating party!

Making a Positive Impact

We believe that by improving operations under our direct control and encouraging our suppliers to use best practices, we can make a positive contribution to the world around us.

One way we know we can make a difference is to focus on responsible water stewardship, achieve true zero waste to landfills across our operations (wherever practical), and phase out single-use plastics from our operations.

Our stated aspirational goals:

    • We will make zero water withdrawals for manufacturing processes.

    • We will achieve true zero waste to landfills across our operations.

    • We will use freshwater for human consumption only.

    • We will eliminate single-use plastics from our operations by 2030.

Moving Towards a Circular Economy

With a focus on the materials we use inside our vehicles, we aspire to use more renewable, recycled, and lightweight plastics with lower life cycles that provide improved or equivalent quality, appearance, and performance to existing materials.

Since the Ford Company was founded, we’ve been using recycled and renewable materials to keep waste out of landfills, reduce pressure on natural resources, and cut energy use and costs.

Some recycled materials we currently use are aluminum scrap, post-consumer carpet, and recycled tires. In addition, we are looking at innovative ways to use agave fiber from the tequila-making process and US currency taken out of circulation. In an effort to reduce weight and costs, we are working to integrate nylon fishing net into clumps, wiring channels, and brackets.

The Ford Company was the first automotive company to launch soy-based foam. Since then, we have introduced new composites using castor oil, kenaf, wheat straw, rice hulls, coconut, and tree fibers into our vehicles.

Our efforts don’t stop in our factories! We innovate even within our in-house food service business by minimizing waste through recycling and composting, reducing our carbon footprint, and eliminating single-use plastic. Our menus are designed with employee health in mind, focusing on local, organic, and sustainable supplies, and choices that reflect local cultures and dietary needs.

Our stated aspirational goals:

    • We aspire to only use recycled and renewable plastics in our vehicles globally.

The Ford Company’s ongoing commitment to the environment didn’t just start. It won’t stop, either. With innovations in technology and sustainability, we continue to lead the field in the automotive industry.
