2020 Ford Expedition Towing Capacity
For 2020, the
Ford Expedition receives several updates, including the reintroduction of the
King Ranch trim level and the standardization of the Ford Co-Pilot360™ suite. But
what hasn’t changed is the Expedition’s stout powertrain and impressive towing
capacity. If you’re looking for a full-size SUV that can pull all your toys – look
no further.
Introducing the 2020 Ford Expedition
The 2020 Ford Expedition is a three-row SUV available as both a
standard wheelbase model and an extended wheelbase model (referred to as MAX). Four
trim levels are available, including XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum.
When properly equipped, the Expedition offers best-in-class towing.
Robust powertrain options
To achieve segment-leading
towing ability, you need a robust powertrain. That’s why the Ford Expedition
comes with an EcoBoost 3.5L V6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic
transmission. The engine turns out 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque in
the XLT, Limited, and King Ranch models. In the Platinum grade, the engine
cranks out 400 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque.
As always, the
Expedition comes standard with rear-wheel-drive; four-wheel drive is optional.
A limited-slip differential is also available for maximum grip in slippery
situations.
Best-in-class towing capacity
Finally, we get
to the question: How much can the 2020 Ford Expedition tow? When equipped with
the Heavy-duty Trailer Towing package, standard wheelbase 4x2 models can tow up
to 9,300 lbs., while 4x4 models can tow up to 9,200 lbs. Similarly-equipped
extended wheelbase MAX models (both 4x2 and 4x4) can tow up to 9,000 lbs.
With the
Expedition, towing is also made easy, thanks to advanced technologies. The SUV
comes with trailer sway control, which works together with the traction
control, stability control, and Blind Spot Information System. There’s also
available Pro Trailer Backup Assist – a technology that allows you to use a
knob to steer a trailer in reverse – and an optional integrated trailer brake
controller.
Other impressive features
The 2020 Ford
Expedition can tow whatever you need. But that’s not all – the SUV also offers
the latest features to keep the entire family safe and happy.
For example,
everyone can enjoy the SYNC® 3 infotainment system with support for Apple
CarPlay® and Android Auto™. There’s also available FordPass Connect™, which can
act as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices.
And then
there’s the standard Ford Co-Pilot360™ suite of advanced driver-assist
technologies. The bundle includes Auto High-Beam Headlamps, BLIS® (Blind Spot
Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert, Pre-Collision Assist with
Automatic Emergency Braking, a Lane-Keeping System and a Rear View Camera.
