2019 Ford F-150 FX4 off-road package

It's no longer enough for the manufacturer of a vehicle to offer all-wheel-drive or even a proper 4x4 system, in hopes that it will attract those who want a model that's going to be a capable off-roader. Automakers now have systems with recognizable branding, which is exactly what Ford has now with its FX4 Off-Road Package for the 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
2019 F-150
The Ford F-150 is a living legend of the
truck world as it's a major reason why the F-Series of Ford trucks have now
been the biggest-seller in America for an astonishing 42 years and counting. A
truck doesn’t get to be the biggest-selling vehicle of them all in America by
resting on its laurels though, and it's the constant innovation and development
of the F-150 that has kept it at the top of the class for so long.
The available four-wheel-drive system of
the F-150 is already much capable, but if you do the sensible thing and add the
FX4 Off-Road Package as well, you then take the F-150 to another level of
capability.
What it includes
The FX4 Off-Road Package for the 2019 F-150
is an option with four-wheel-drive versions of the F-150 XL, XLT, Lariat, King
Ranch and Platinum trim levels.
The package itself includes a 3.31
electronic-locking rear axle if you have the 5.0L, 3.5L EcoBoost or 3.0L diesel
engines, or a 3.55 electronic-locking rear axle if you have an F-150 with the 2.7L
EcoBoost powerplant. It also includes FX4 Off-Road box decals; Hill Descent
Control; off-road-tuned shock absorbers; floor liners; and skid plates for the
fuel tank, transfer case and front differential.
Raptor
Of course, if you want the ultimate F-150
for going off-road you’re going to want to take a look at the F-150 Raptor,
which is rightly referred to as a performance off-roader. The FX-4 Off-Road
Package isn’t an option for the Raptor because it already comes standard with
features that are either the same or even more robust than those included in
the package.
The Raptor also ups the ante with the
Terrain Management System, which is also available with the new midsize 2019
Ford Ranger. Terrain Management has four drive modes that take all the
guesswork out of driving off-road so even those with little or no experience
can take advantage of the F-150's off-road capability.
Does the F-150 need the FX4 Package?
If you want an F-150 that can hold its own
when the pavement runs out, any 4x4 F-150 will do a great job. However, if you
really want to push the F-150 to its limits in the most demanding off-road
environments the additional capability it delivers is well worth the modest
additional cost.
