2019 Ford Expedition XLT SUV Features and Specs

More and more
family buyers are going for pickup trucks these days, but plenty of people
still prefer the huge capability of a full-size SUV like the Ford Expedition.
While a full-size pickup truck can probably tow more, it can't seat up to eight
people in some comfort and haul a load of their belongings at the same time.
The Ford Expedition XLT is the entry point to the Expedition lineup of
full-size Ford SUVs, so here are some details about what you get for your money
with a 2019
Ford Expedition XLT.
Exterior styling
Of course,
being the entry-level model in the range means the XLT doesn't come with the
extra bling and big wheels of higher trim level, but it does come standard with
some very smart 18-inch machined-face alloys with Magnetic-painted pockets. As
for the shape of the Expedition, there's no getting away from the fact this is
a no-nonsense, full-size SUV. There are no overtly sporty pretentions here, and
the rear-end is undeniably functional rather than futuristically styled. The
front fascia is quite the opposite though, as the front fascia with its
wrap-around chrome grille and headlights pushed right to the edge presents a
very contemporary look.
Powertrain
All versions of
the Expedition come with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 engine, which is
seriously good news for those going for the entry-level XLT. With the top
Platinum trim level, the EcoBoost engine gets an extra 25 horsepower and 10
lb.-ft. of torque, but that's not a huge deal when the standard unit already
boasts an impressive 375 horsepower and a massive 470 lb.-ft. of torque. All
that power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through Ford's superlative
ten-speed automatic transmission.
Capability
At more than
5,400 pounds, the Expedition XLT is a big vehicle with an engine to match, but
its capability is of equal proportions. As well as being able to carry up to
eight people and their stuff, the Expedition also has a class-best maximum tow
rating of 9,300 pounds*. That's getting close to some full-size light-duty
pickups, but they can't transport eight people at the same time. An XLT with
four-wheel drive can also be specified with the optional FX4 off-road package,
which gets even more from the Expedition's superb traction-control systems.
Features and equipment
Standard
equipment in the Expedition XLT includes a full set of power features, a power-adjustable
driver's seat, a power-folding third-row seat, cruise control, climate control,
18-inch alloy wheels, an AM/FM/satellite/CD audio system with a number of USB
ports and nine speakers, and an LCD touchscreen control interface. The XLT also
comes with hill start assist and a reverse sensing system, trailer sway
control, auto on/off headlamps, ABS brakes, and models specified with
four-wheel-drive also get hill descent control.
Interior
The huge door
makes getting in and out of the Expedition incredibly easy, and you'll soon be
even more comfortable when you climb inside. In standard XLT form, the
Expedition seats up to eight people, but the level of comfort is surprisingly
close to a true luxury model. Nobody is likely to be moaning about leg and
headroom, and your luggage doesn't get a raw deal on space either.
