Tailor your driving experience with our Terrain Management System, which has you covered no matter the conditions. Choose from six standard modes, Normal, Eco, Sport, Tow / Haul, Slippery and Trail. All models equipped with Intelligent 4WD also offer Deep Snow / Sand mode.
And for spirited drives around town — or far from it — select the 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine with 300 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. For more power choose the 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine, churning out 400 hp and 415 lb.-ft of torque.
Horsepower and torque are independent attributes and may not be achieved simultaneously. Always consult the Owner’s Manual before off-road driving, know your terrain and trail difficulty, and use appropriate safety gear.
Towing
Tow Up to 5,000 Lbs.
Hitch-up the camper or the boat. Take four snowmobiles in their trailer. With the Class III Trailer Tow Package standard on every model, Ford Explorer can tow a maximum 5,000 lbs.

From the driveway to the highway, Ford CoPilot360® combines a variety of driving assist features to help keep you in command including BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert, Pre-Collision Assist, Rear View Camera and Hill Descent ControlTM.
Cameras only operate at speeds under 6 miles per hour. Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver's attention, judgment and need to control the vehicle. It does not replace safe driving. See Owner's Manual for details and limitations.
